When it comes to the digital experience, cars are trying their best to catch up with expectations coined by consumer electronics: more AI, more LLM, more screens, bigger screens. However, there’s one important limiting factor: the user mustn’t be distracted.
As part of the predevelopment design research team we were tasked with researching the potentials of a novel screen in the windshield. We started with examining how the screen could address various use cases. Additionally, we examined how a screen that is out of reach but within sight has to behave to reduce distraction and how it can be remote controlled blindly. Our work was a key factor in leading informed discussions about the technology’s future.
